German Government is opening its gates for International non-EU skilled workers through the German Green Card (Chancenkarte). This eases some of the bureaucratic requirements that stopped a lot of skilled workers before. This immigration process is going to be based on a points based system, like they have it in Canada.
Categories of Points in German Green Card
According to the drafted law, the points are distributed into five main categories,
- Professional Qualification: If you hold a professional degree related to your profession you can score 4 Points.
- Professional Experience: If you have 3 years or more professional experience you can score 3 Points. If you have 2 years you get 2 points.
- Language Skills: If your German fluency is B2 level, you get 3 points. If you have B1, You get 2 points.
- Age: If you are under 35 you get two points, if you are under 40 you get one point.
- Previous Residence in Germany: if you have lived in Germany before, you get 1 point.
You need to score at least six points if you want to apply for the German Green card. After a successful application you will get a green card for one year through which you can come to Germany and look for jobs to convert it to long term residency.
When does German Green card starts?
The German Green card is already approved by the cabinet, but however it needs to be approved in the Bundestag.
